Pagosa Springs is a popular hunting destination due to the healthy population of elk and the vast and pristine areas in which to hunt. Access to the National Forest is simple, though the terrain is steep and difficult, with lush meadows scattered all around–perfect for wildlife. We are located in Hunting Unit 77, with access to Units 78, 771, and 751. Big Game Season Dates are listed below. Tags may also be available for birds (turkey, grouse, pheasant), Mountain Lions, Bears, Bighorn Sheep, and Moose. All mule deer tags are by draw only. Crazy Horse Outfitters & Guides, operating out of our campground, specializes in guided hunts and full-service hunts in the San Juan National Forest and the Weminuche Wilderness. Archery: Archery Dates: September 2nd-30th. All archery tags in our unit (#77) are by DRAW only.
Muzzleloading Rifle: All deer/elk licenses are by draw only. September 14th-22nd
Note: We are open through the 2nd Rifle season ( November 3rd is the last day we are open )
- 1st Rifle Season, Draw only. October 12th-16th
- 2nd Rifle Season: Unlimited Over-the-counter bull tags available at our store. October 26th-Nov 3rd
- 3rd Rifle Season: Unlimited Over-the-counter bull tags available at our store. November 9th-15th
- 4th Season: Draw only. Totally limited. November 20th-24th
